This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if required to reflect changes in law, guidance or organisational learning. Trekkers UK exists to create welcoming outdoor spaces where people can connect with nature, movement, and community. We are committed to building an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and included. Should this not be adhered to in any way we reserve the right to refuse your attendance at future events. Creating a safe and inclusive community is everyone’s responsibility.

By attending Trekkers UK events, participants agree to contribute to an environment where everyone can enjoy nature, wellbeing, and community together.

1. Respect Everyone

Trekkers UK is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in all its activities. We aim to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. AEven thought we target the global majority Trekkers welcomes people from all backgrounds. Treat everyone with kindness, dignity and respect.

Discrimination or exclusion based on any characteristic will not be tolerated, including

  • Race or ethnicity

  • Nationality or migration status

  • Gender identity or sex

  • Sexual orientation

  • Religion or belief

  • Disability or health condition

  • Age

  • Socio-economic background

  • Pregnancy or maternity

2. Anti-Racism Statement

Trekkers UK is an actively anti-racist organisation. We recognise that racism — including structural, institutional and interpersonal racism — creates barriers to access, wellbeing and belonging.

We are committed to:

  • Challenging racism in all its forms

  • Creating outdoor and wellbeing spaces where people from the Global Majority feel safe, valued and represented

  • Listening to lived experience and taking action to address inequality

  • Continuously learning, reflecting and improving our practice

Racist language, behaviour or actions will not be tolerated within Trekkers UK.

We recognise that people experience inequality and barriers differently, particularly those from the Global Majority and other marginalised communities. We actively work to reduce these barriers and ensure fair access to our walks, activities, volunteering opportunities and leadership roles.

3. Support the Group Vibes

Trekkers UK will:

  • Treat others with respect and patience

  • Be mindful of different fitness levels and experiences

  • Follow instructions from walk leaders and volunteers

  • Look out for one another during activities

  • Help maintain a supportive and welcoming atmosphere

4. Safety & Responsibility

For everyone’s safety:

  • Follow guidance from walk leaders and event organisers

  • Stay with the group unless agreed otherwise with a leader

  • Come prepared for the activity (appropriate clothing, water, footwear)

  • Inform leaders of any concerns or injuries during the event

Trekkers reserves the right to prioritise group safety at all times.

5. Respect Nature

Trekkers events take place in natural environments.

  • Follow the Leave No Trace principle

  • Respect wildlife and local communities

  • Take litter home where possible

  • Stay on designated paths where required

  • Sexual orientation


6. Harassment and unacceptable behaviour

Trekkers UK has zero tolerance for behaviour that makes others feel unsafe, intimidated, or excluded.

This includes:

  • Racism, discrimination or prejudice

  • Harassment, intimidation or bullying

  • Offensive or abusive language

  • Unwanted physical contact

  • Disruptive or aggressive behaviour

Trekkers organisers may ask participants to leave an event if behaviour breaches this Code of Conduct

7. Harassment and Discrimination

Trekkers UK has zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment or victimisation.

Any behaviour that:

  • Makes someone feel unsafe, unwelcome or excluded

  • Is offensive, intimidating or discriminatory

  • Undermines dignity or respect

will be addressed promptly and fairly.

8. Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness behaviour that goes against this Code of Conduct, please speak to a Trekkers leader, volunteer or member of the leadership team or anonymously complete our feedback form which will be sent out at the end of each event

All concerns will be:

  • Taken seriously

  • Handled sensitively and confidentially

  • Investigated fairly and proportionately
